The Star Behind the Scenes

As you know, here at Primary Eye Care, we’re honored to have you as our valued patient! Our goal is ALWAYS remarkable, one-to-one patient care… Thanks to our amazing team members!

Today, we’d like to tell you a little bit about one of the awesome people who helps make this possible: Gwen, our front desk coordinator!

Gwen has been with us for 28 years! Longer than any other staff member! She moved to the area with her family in 1976 and lived in Brentwood for 13 years where she raised her three children. Previously, she owned a professional recruiting search firm in the Medical field placing physical and occupational therapists. Gwen also had a successful resume service before joining our team! She describes being hired by Dr. Walt West “because of my people skills and writing/composing experience.”

We recently put Gwen in the hot seat and asked her some questions so you can get to know her better…

When you’re not here working, what are your favorite things to do?

On my days out of the office, I enjoy spending time with friends, family, boating and playing with my dog Baxter!

When you first started working here, what were your first impressions of the office and the team? Have those impressions changed?

In 1987 there was not enough staff (only 3 total!) There was no time off because no one could run the front office but myself. I was not only running the front office alone, I was his only administrative assistant. The next I spent 5 years doing nothing but filing electronic insurance claims.

We moved to the new building in the mid 90’s and have much more staff these days. I love working with out patients, many of whom I know very well now. We have a beautiful working environment and work for the best doctors in town who are good to their staff. Love the staff! All of the different personalities make for an interesting job daily! We’re like a family at Primary Eyecare and the doctors treat us like family!

What’s your favorite part of your job?

Interaction with our wonderful patients. They all know me and seem happy to hear from me, whether I’m calling to confirm appointments or letting them know theta their glasses or contacts are in. I also like coordinating surgery dates for cataract surgery and retinal surgery. I believe 100% in our doctors and surgeons we refer to! I also think we have a wonderful optical dispensary with all the latest styles in frames and sunglasses. No need to go anywhere else for your contacts or glasses.

We’re So Happy To Have Gwen As A Member Of Our Team!

As one of our valued patients, if you have your own question for Gwen, please ask it in a comments section below! Also, you can always send us a message on Facebook anytime.

We look forward to seeing you at your next visit! Thanks for the trust you place in our practice.
